NOTE
Left and right tie-rod ends are removed the same. Right side shown.
Note distance of old rod end before removal.
It may be necessary to use a ball joint splitter to break the ball joint.
a. Removal.
(1)
Remove cotter pin (1), castle nut (2), and
washer (3) from tie-rod end shaft (4). Discard
cotter pin.
(2)
Remove front tie-rod end (5) from idler arm (6).
(3)
Remove cotter pin (7), bolt (8), castle nut (9), and
tie-rod end (5) from tie rod (10). Discard cotter
pin.
(4)
Remove grease fitting (11) from tie-rod end (5).
b. Installation.
(0.1) Install grease fitting (11) on tie-rod end (5).

Install tie-rod end (5), new cotter pin (7), bolt (8),
and castle nut (9) on tie rod (10).
(2)
Install tie-rod end (5) in idler arm (6).
(3)
Install washer (3), castle nut (2), and new cotter
pin (1) on tie-rod end shaft (4).
c. Follow-On Maintenance.
