Section TS - Troubleshooting Symptoms
Fuel Consumption Excessive
This is symptom tree T087.
Check for added loading from malfunctioning
accessories or other engine-driven units,
Engine under excessive load
brakes dragging, or other changes in vehicle
loading. Disengage engine-driven units.
Explain the correct engine operation to the
operator. Refer to the Operation and Mainte-
perator technique is not correct

Check the fuel lines, fuel connections, fuel
delivery valve seals, and fuel filters for leaks.
Check the fuel lines from the supply tank(s).
Refer to the OEM's service manual.
Verify by operating the engine from a tempo-
rary supply of No. 2 diesel fuel. Check fuel
oor fuel quality or wrong fuel grade
specifications for proper fuel grade. Refer to
the Operation and Maintenance Manual, B
Series Engines, Bulletin No. 3810205.
Check the intake and exhaust systems for
restrictions. Inspect the intake air filter and

replace as necessary. Refer to Procedure
010-031 or 011-009.
Remove and test the injectors. Replace as
njectors worn or malfunctioning
necessary. Refer to Procedure 006-026.
Put the engine at top dead center. Check and
uel injection pump timing is not correct

Remove the fuel pump. Refer to 005-012 or
