Section TS - Troubleshooting Symptoms
Smoke, Black -- Excessive
This is symptom tree T116.
Engine is being lugged down
Use lower gear.
Inspect the air cleaner element. Replace as
lugged air filter
needed. Refer to the OEM service manual.
If the vehicle is equipped with a valve switch
ntake air source is incorrect
the intake source from under the hood to
outside, position and valve for the season.
Inspect and clean any debris from the front of
ntake air overheated
the charge-air cooler. Refer to Procedure
Inspect for plugged passages in the after-
ftercooler restricted (if equipped)
cooler. Refer to Procedure 010-001.
Check the exhaust system for any restrictions.

Refer to Procedure 011-009.
Inspect the CAC for air restrictions or leaks.

Refer to Procedure 010-027.
Check for leaks in the air crossover tube,
charge-air cooler connections, hoses, or
ir leak between the turbocharger and the
through holes in the manifold cover and repair
or replace if necessary. Refer to Section 10.
