PREPARATION FOR TOWING
00029
1.
Stow the backhoe and install the swing and boom locks (WP 0021):
If the backhoe is engaged in digging operations, or an attachment was in use (and is still attached) at the time of the fail-
ure, and the engine cannot be started, operate the recovery hydraulics (WP 0004) to dump any load from a bucket and to
stow the backhoe. Then install the backhoe travel strut, the swing lock, and the boom lock (WP 0021).
2.
Stow the stabilizer legs:
a.
If the stabilizers were deployed at the time of the failure, and the engine cannot be started, operate the recovery
hydraulics (WP 0004) to stow the stabilizers.
b.
Ensure the stabilizers are in the raised position.
WARNING
The rear towing pintle on the HMEE-I is intended only for towing a trailer having a maximum
weight of 18,000 lb (8,165 kg). The pintle must not be used to tow or recover the HMEE-I. Failure
to follow this warning may result in injury or death to personnel.
CAUTION
During all towing operations, ensure that the tow bar does not fall on any part of the HMEE-I,
especially when travelling over uneven terrain (such as crossing a ditch or ridge). Failure to follow
this caution may result in damage to equipment.
NOTE
The machine can be towed only in the forward direction. If the machine must be extracted
rearwards before recovery towing can begin, use the rear lugs to extract the machine.
3.
Dump any load from the front bucket, and remove the front bucket from the quick hitch (WP 0004).
4.
Set the quick hitch in the self-deployed position and install the front bucket crowd cylinder strut (WP 0021).
