SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS FOR REAR DRIVE TYPE 1S HUB UNIT
WITH KIRKSTALL 151/2" x 6" BRAKE
DESCRIPTION
The hub gears are driven by a floating sun gear splined to the drive shaft. The sun gear mates with
three planet wheels mounted on a robust carrier which is bolted onto the hub (20). The annulus is of two
piece variety, splined to axle stub (55), also supporting outer hub bearing (71 & 71A). The hub is fully
floating, running on taper roller bearings which are adjusted by means of a special split nut (16) with
pinch bolt arrangement. Brakes can be of Kirkstall or proprietary manufacture which can be serviced
without disturbing hub. Brake drums are made of a special alloy cast iron, carried on outside of hub
flanges.
