Low compression on a single cylinder can be caused by an
external leak or a leak to a coolant passage.
A compression leak to the coolant will normally be detected
by loss of coolant as the coolant is blown from the cooling
system.
External cylinder head gasket leaks can be detected visu-
ally. Liquid soap can be used to locate external leaks.
The cause of piston ring wear can range from wear over a
long period of service to a dust-out in a short period be-
cause of poor maintenance of the air intake system.
