Cylinder Head and Valves
NOTE: There is no top or bottom to valve springs (C);
they may be installed either way.
4. Install valve spring and spring cap (D). Spring must
seat in machined counterbore of head.
5. Compress valve springs with JDE138 Valve Spring
Compressor (A) and install retainer locks (B).
NOTE: Install wear caps just before installing rocker arm
assembly.

6. Strike each valve assembly with a soft mallet (A) three
or four times to insure retainer locks are properly
seated.
Repeat procedure for all remaining valves.
7. Measure valve recess in head as directed earlier in this
group.
