CHECK CRANKSHAFT GEAR-TO-OIL PUMP
DRIVE GEAR BACKLASH
IMPORTANT: Backlash must be at least 0.08 mm
(0.003 in.). If backlash is less than 0.08
mm (0.003 in.), replace the oil pump
drive gear.
Before removing oil pump, determine if there is adequate
backlash between oil pump and crankshaft drive gears.
Mount dial indicator (A) and measure backlash between
pump drive gear (B) and crankshaft gear (C).

REMOVE ENGINE OIL PUMP
1. Remove four oil pump housing cap screws (A).
2. Remove oil pump assembly with drive gear (B) and oil
pump outlet tube (C) attached.
3. Remove oil pump pickup tube, clean and inspect as
detailed later.
